Referral Scheme
What this is
If you've made an enquiry with Retriever Claim about a tenancy deposit claim, you can refer someone else you know who might be owed money back after a deposit issue — a friend, family member, or anyone else. If the person you refer goes on to sign up with our Panel Solicitor to pursue their claim, we'll pay you £100.
This scheme currently applies to tenancy deposit claims only. It does not apply to housing disrepair claims. It's a limited-time offerand may end at any time — see "Changes to this scheme" below.
No obligation
Taking part is entirely optional and free. There's no obligation on you to refer anyone, and referring someone does not guarantee a payment. A referral fee is only payable where the conditions below are met.
Who can refer someone
To take part, you must already have submitted your own enquiry with Retriever Claim via check.retrieverclaim.com. We identify you as the referrer using the phone number already registered against your own original enquiry — so the referred person needs to give us the same phone number you're known to us by.
How a referral works
The person you refer must:
- Complete our tenancy deposit check themselves at check.retrieverclaim.com.
- Tell us, at the point they first get in touch, that they've been referred, and give us your name and the phone number you're registered under. We cannot apply a referral retrospectively once a case is already underway.
What you're paid, and when
- £100 is payable once the referred person has signed a Conditional Fee Agreement (CFA) with our Panel Solicitor to pursue their claim.
- Payment is made 14 days after the CFA is signed, to allow the standard cooling-off period on that agreement to pass.
- Payment is made by bank transfer, to an account in your name.
- £100 per case, regardless of how many people are party to that case (for example, joint tenants referred together as one case still receive one payment between them).
- Payment is made once the referred person has signed a CFA and the 14 days have passed — it does not depend on the claim's ultimate outcome.
We decide whether to accept a case
Retriever Claim, and our Panel Solicitor, retain full discretion to accept or decline any claim, including a referred one. A referral does not guarantee that the person you refer will qualify, or that we will take them on. No referral fee is payable unless the referred person's claim is accepted by us and proceeds to a signed CFA with our Panel Solicitor.
How your information is stored
Information relating to a referral — including the referrer's and referred person's contact details, and the status of any referral payment — is stored and processed under the same terms as any other personal data we hold. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy. Claim Simple Ltd is the Data Controller for this information.
A note on tax
Any payment made to you under this scheme may be treated as taxable income. It is your responsibility to declare it to HMRC if required. Retriever Claim does not deduct tax from this payment.
Changes to this scheme
This is a limited-time offer. We may vary, pause, or withdraw this referral scheme at any time and without notice. If we do, any referral where the referred person had already signed a CFA before the scheme ended will still qualify for payment on the usual 14-day timeline. Referrals made after the scheme has ended will not qualify.
